Feriepiloterne Guide: 6 Great Experiences in South Zealand & Møn
With an impressive travel CV in their backpack, the Feriepiloter laced up their hiking boots and tried a hiking holiday in South Zealand & Møn. Get their best tips for an experience-rich hiking holiday here.
#1 The Church on the Cliff Edge
Max: It was a huge aha experience for us to hike the Trampesti path at Stevns Klint. The nature is absolutely amazing – Denmark is not just flat as a pancake, as many might think. And there is so much to experience along the otherwise only 22 km long hiking route. We passed Holtug Chalk Quarry, Stevns Lighthouse, the underground Cold War Museum Stevnsfort, and Højerup Old Church, which sits right on the edge of the cliff. Højerup completely blew us away – imagine that such a place exists in Denmark, it feels like something out of Italy.

#2 Fun in the Treetops
Trine: We actually only had an hour at the Go Fly treetop courses at Gavnø Castle, but it was so much fun that we ended up spending three. Go Fly is an obstacle course with everything from zip lines to balance beams and climbing nets many meters above the ground. Max is afraid of heights, but we still completed all the courses. You simply get hooked. Afterwards, we took a walk in the large castle park and looked at the many beautiful flower beds.

#3 Super Fun SUP
Max: We love being active, so we were really happy when we found out we were going paddleboarding with Limelight Watersports in Rødvig Harbour. It’s harder than you might think to get up on the board, so at first we were a bit like Bambi on ice and ended up in the water a couple of times. But with a bit of practice, we managed to stand up, and it was a great experience. We actually enjoyed it so much that we later invested in a board to use this summer.
#4 Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Max: There is something almost therapeutic about gliding out onto the small stream by Slusehuset in Næstved, owned by a father and son. Here you can rent a canoe and experience the Suså River from the water. During the trip, we passed the well-known boarding school Herlufsholm, sailed under small bridges and beneath large green treetops leaning over the river. We also greeted a few duck families and enjoyed the silence.
#5 Into the Depths
Trine: Museums are not usually at the top of our list when we’re on holiday, but the Cold War Museum Stevnsfort was an incredible experience. The museum is located underground deep inside Stevns Klint and takes you on a journey back in time. Here you can see how soldiers lived during World War II in the long, narrow corridors and learn about Denmark’s defense stronghold.
#6 Pure Idyllic Charm
Max: Imagine arriving by boat at a beautiful green island, where a small path leads you up to a charming half-timbered house. There isn’t a person for miles around, only deer and pheasants roaming the large natural grounds. That’s what it was like arriving at Gavnø Castle’s rental house Sophienlyst, located on what feels like the edge of the world. We enjoyed sitting outside on summer nights, making a morning fire, and unwinding after a long day of hiking.
